Motorhoming in The Alps

When you think about motorhoming in The Alps, you probably have an idea of Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music sitting amongst wild flowers, high on hillside with her guitar. For Joe Kay the story is somewhat different, he has been motorhoming in The Alps for 11 years now and loves to go in the mid winter and snowboard.

Here Motorholme TV reporter Vanessa Warwick talks to Joe about what his plans are this new year for him and his friends in The French Alps. He is certainly enthusiastic, so it will be a lot of fun to follow his adventures in his Chausson Flash 04 Motorhome.

It is impossible to mention the French Alps without thinking of arguably the best skiing in the world, with many of the worlds most renowned ski areas being found along the range: Les Trois Vallees, Espace Killey and Serre Chevalier to name but three of the best known and loved, but there are literally hundreds of smaller ski stations hidden in the peaks.

Joe prefers to stay in the free Aires in France, he says, Yeah pretty much every French resort has got somewhere free where you can put a motorhome. You cannot take caravans there, but you can take motorhomes. There is no electricity but we take a generator and there has places to put the waste. It is really set up and the French and Europeans in general are really motorhome friendly, much more so than in Britain.

Joe is part of the Motorholme Invest Scheme too, which makes the trip even more affordable: Well I was looking at buying a motorhome to actually come out away and do this, but I only really only was looking at doing it for a couple of weeks in the winter and so it made sense to me that someone else was going to use the van the rest of the year. I get to use this for a couple of weeks in the winter and it is just costing me the insurance. It is a fantastic deal and I am actually making money out of it rather than it costing me a load of money so I think it is fantastic.
